Society for Word of Mouth

As some of you may know, yesterday was a tough day for me as I became a statistic, a victim to one of the many advertising agency layoffs. But in today’s social media world, our community on Twitter really helped me with their support and kindness.

brogan As Chris Brogan said, today with social media, we don’t have to be alone in our layoff moments. Online communities give us the opportunity to share, grieve and recover. That was certainly true for me yesterday. For these kind words and so many more, I am grateful.

I will be writing another more detailed post shortly. In fact a few of my friends, with very popular blogs have offered to let me post there, but until that time, in the words of the immortal Bartles & James ads from the 80’s, Thank you for your support.

Great post. I too was a recent statistic; I was let go from my job in mid-November. I posted about it on my blog, and sent an electronic version of my resume via email to all my contacts. My resume was forwarded exponentially, resulting in conversations with a few potential employers. It's nice to know how much people care and are willing to help.

Warren, thanks for posting this here. I heard about it through the SWOM email earlier. Several people I know have been laid off in just the last few weeks -- afraid we're going to see more of this -- but the networking we've been doing on Twitter, here, and on other social networks is paying off with people volunteering to pass resumes around and make recommendations. It appears that your network is rallying around you as well. Best wishes for a quick and smooth transition to life's next adventure for you!

Warren, thanks for being a good example and an inspiration to many of us. In today's economy, changes come fast and often from strange directions. The good news is that positive change can come in the same manner. I am sure the investment you have made so unselfishly in others will be fruitful.
