Hi all,
I've been lurking for a while, building my page, etc. Wanted to pop in and say hello and will spend a bit more time "getting to know" people through their posts.
Hi -
Found this site while setting up a Google Reader page. Looks like there are some great resource people here.
I own a small promotional products company in a small town. I am determined to start blogging this year- about the great possibilities of promo products. In my small town, the merchants and businesses all believe that word-of-mouth advertising is the best advertising you can have. I don't disagree with them. I just don't know how they generate it- I know my products can help a lot.
I joined because I noticed that there were several small business owners who are members and love to find out what they are doing to grow their businesess.
I just finished both of your books and thought they were terrific. I'm running marketing at a teeny startup in oakland that is introducing a new line of consumer products made from a plant-based plastic. Our plastic performs just like polycarbonate, but doesn't contain BPA (did you see the papers yesterday?), uses no petroleum in its manufacture, and is completely recyclable back into exactly the same material at the end of its life.
Needless to say, as a teeny startup, our ad spend is going to be zero when we launch this summer, so we will be relying entirely on WOM. I think we have a pretty authentic story and that the public will be receptive, but I'm still working out how to get the word out. If any of you guys have any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, please let me know.
Thanks for reading the books. Your business sounds interesting. I'm guessing it's a B2B company, right? If so, you might consider starting a WOM for B2B group. It's a bit of a different ballgame for B2B companies, so you might find kindred spirits in starting a group like that.
I'm new to Swam. A friend who writes http://customersrock.wordpress.com/ referred me to the site and I'm looking forward to learning from the community. I'm the co-founder of http://beta.collarfree.com a user submitted design and clothing company. I'm excited to learn how to spread the word online and also get feedback about our site.
Hi. I am not only new to SWOM, this is also my first message I have typed on a blog.
I am a custom packaging and packaging supply broker based in Chicago. I target small to midsize food and cpg manufacturers that would like to streamline their order process and packaging supply chain. Through working with the CPG Companies, Packaging Design Agencies, and Packaging Manufacturers I reduce the number of touch points in the packaging development process while maintaining clear communication and execution of the product goals.
I have searched entrepreneur blog sites today in search of methods to get in front of start up businesses. I bring a lot of value to these businesses and I get real fired up on networking.
After reading the first few pages of introductions, I figured I'd be the first photographer mentioned but I'm glad to see there were a few before me. I'm in the Twin Cities area and specialize primarily in photographing children and families, secondarily in weddings, etc. Having spent several years studying the photography side of a photo business, I'm now studying the business side. Given the powerful influence of WOM and my limited budget as a fledgling business, I know that it's a tool I want to focus my attention and efforts towards so I'm excited to be learning more!
